Zynga is Preparing to Go Public

The company that brought us Farmville, Cityville, Mafia Wars and other hugely popular Facebook games is getting ready for their IPO. They’ve been making absurd amounts of money from their games and now they want more! Recent valuations of their company have been extremely high, so it’s likely that they’ll come out onto the public market in good shape. They’ve also been on a hiring spree for months and have been buying up real estate in San Francisco, presumably for a larger office or even their own campus.

Zynga Strikes Again

As we’ve all been aware of in the past few months, Zynga has been buying up other game developers like crazy. This time, they’ve purchased DNA Games, the creators of the Facebook game Casino City, which was quite a popular Facebook game in itself. Zynga has not disclosed the purchase price but we can bet it was pretty attractive. With this new talent as part of the Zynga family, I’m sure we can expect to see more and more awesome games coming out soon on both Facebook and mobile platforms like the iPhone and Android.

Zynga Buys Flock

Zynga has been hugely successful the past couple years and they’ve been trying to expand their workforce with new acquisitions. This time, they’ve bought Flock, a “social web browser” which attempts to simplify and integrate social media connections and interactions into the regular web browsing experience. Flock launched a while ago but never really picked up steam. Zynga seems to be more interested in the talent at Flock rather than the actual product.

Zynga Purchases Area/Code

Area/Code is a game developer that had some popular games on Facebook, just like Zynga though not quite as popular. One of their games, for example, was CSI: Crime City. They also had an iPhone game called Drop7. Zynga has now bought Area/Code and is converting it into Zynga New York. This is just another in a long line of recent Zynga acquisitions and there will probably be more on the way.
